Davison, who has been in charge of the St. Andrew's Parish for the last four months. Mr. Davison is leaving fof Southern Ethiopia (Abyssinia) to take up missionary work there. The chairman, Mr. T- Martindale, on behalf of the congregation of St. Andrew's Church, presented Mr. Davison with a cheque as a token of esteem. ♦ * * * Mrs. William Kay was hostess at an enjoyable tea given at the Lyceum Club on Friday afternoon in honour of Mrs. Hardie Neil, who has returned home after a trip to Honolulu. The lounge was beautifully arranged with fragrant spring flowers, and Mrs. Kay received her guests in a suit of dark velour with a little suede hat. The quarterly meeting of the League of Xew Zealand Penwomen was held in the club rooms on Friday afternoon, the president, Mrs. Boyd, presiding over a good attendance of members. An important change in the policy of the league was effected, on the motion of Mrs. Macky, when it was decided that no office be held by any member for more than two successive years. This will bring the club into line with the procedure of most important associations in the city, and will have the effect of widening the circles of interest. Miss Edna Craig delivered an interesting lecturette on the musical genius, Brahms, which she followed with three of his vocal compositions. "Sweet Melodies," "Sonntag" and "Sapphic Ode." The songs were sympathetically rendered and Miss Craig was warmly thanked for her half-hour of entertainment.

There was an exceptionally large attendance of members and friends at the Philistines Club on Saturday evening, -when Mr. T. T. Garland was in the chair. An excellent programme was provided for entertainment. Songs were charmingly sung by Mrs. Isaacs. Mr. S. Baker and Mr. J. MeDougall. Elocution items by Miss Raie Robinson were much appreciated and numbers given by a string quartet (Messrs H. Hayes, A. Long," J. Bretnall and C. Munro) brought forth rounds of applause. The "Original Four" (Misses Williams and B. Poulton and Messrs. Prentice and Birch) also contributed excellent items. A sketch entitled "Widows" was cleverly performed byMrs. Hobday, Mrs. Howard and Miss Xita Webster. Mr. Xorman Heath also gave a humorous sketch. Mr. Garland also gave a little talk on "Humbugs," which was much appreciated by t&e audience. Mr. Walker, president of the Athenian Club, and a number of the executive officers of that club were the official guests for the evening. After supper dancing was held until the .midnight hour.

A dance took place in the Morningside Hall on Saturday when Mrs. G. E. Carr, of •■Valhalla," Mount Albert, entertained some friends in honour of the coming-of-asa of her daughter, Mabel. The Tamaki United Association Football Club held their annual ball in the Peerless Theatre, St. Helier's Bay, last Thursday evening. The Otahuhu Presbyterian Ladies' Gyinnasism Club held a display in the St. Andrew's Hall, the programme consisting of drill, flag-drill, parallel bars, swarming and vaulting, tug- of -war and races. The work done by Mrs. Eddiestone, the instructress, was highly praised by the Rev. A. Elliffe. Miss Whyte, the president, and the pianist, Miss Preston, were presented with bouquets. Mr. Elliffe called on Miss Whyte who presented the following prizes: Senior apparatus, Isabel MeSporran; senior drill, Mimi Pinhey; junior apparatus, Jean Gardiner; junior drill, Mona Mouton. Items were contributed by Miss Xettie Cook (song), Beryl Payne (recitation), Miss Zoe Fearnley (fancy dance), a humorous sketch entitled, "Top Dog," was rendered by the Misses Mabel and Xettie Pinhey, Xatalie De MontaP< and Xettie Cook and wae much appreciated. The display was brought to a close with a rucst effective lantern maize.

On Saturday evening a party was given by Mr. and Mrs. L. Court in their beautiful home at Stanley Bay. The occasion was to bid bon voyage to Miss Moira Gold water, who is leaving tins month for a tour of England and the Continent. Bowls of roses, double hyacinths, stocks and sweet peas were used in profusion in the various rooms, wood fires with silver and antique candleabras shedding their soft, golden lights, making an exquisite setting.
