WELLINGTON, this* day. ■So many applications for national handicaps have been received by the New Zealand Golf Council that a meeting is to be held i<> consider increasing the number o£ playei-H to bo allowed to contest the open championship. Seventy-two was the original limit fixed for the open championship field at Belmout links, in Wanganui, shortly, but now it is proposed to raise the number to 80 at least. Entries are still arriving, although tin; final date was posted some days ago. There is every indication that the coming tournament will be one of the largest and mo>;t representative fields for the national championships.
