STOWAWAY FOUND.
TRAVELLED ON AORANGI. TRIED TO GET TO CANADA. A well-dressed young man, George Tlifton, a salesman and a native of England, arrested on arrival of the Aorangi from Sydney this morning, on a charge of stowing away at Sydney last Thursday, appeared at the Police Court, lie pleaded guilty to the charge. The police and the purser of the vessel stated that Clifton was found in the Second-class quarters of the Aorangi only yesterday. He admitted it was his intention to work his passage to Canada. Accused only had 14/10 on him when arrested.
Clifton asked the magistrate for a chance so that he could look tor work. This was refused, Mr. Hunt stating that there were too many men stowing away lately. Clifton was fined the amount of the fare, £8, or 14 days in gaol.
