INFECTIOUS DISEASES HOSPITAL.
Some years ago the Auckland Hospital Board purchased a block of land at Manurewa for this purpose. If so, why has this policy been shelved and what return is the public taxpayer receiving on the capital sunk in the purchase? Also what Government Department was concerned in the loan if a loan was raised? Some enlightenment on this matter would be appreciated. GEO. MOORE. [The secretary of the Hospital Board states that the block at Manurewa was purchased in pursuance of a policy adopted at the time for the establishment of a tubercular sanatorium. Shortly afterwards the Health Department took over Pukeora from the Defence Department and thus forestalled the board's purchase. The area has been leased from time to time and is at present under a seven years' lease, the board retaining the light to resume fl'!> . portion of it at any time. Xo loan was raised for the purchase, and it was never at any time considered advisable to establish an infectious diseases hospital on that particular site. —Ed.]
