KAURI GUM CONTROL.
MEETING- OF BOARD. PENROSE PLANT DISCUSSED. The monthly meeting of the Kauri Gum Control Board was held this week. 1 Mr. iCH. Wynyard presided, all members being present. One application for a gum-buyer's license Was granted. Ninfe 'applications for the upliftmfent of reservation oven' portions of kauri gum reserves which • had been referred to the board by the • Lands Department were considered, | three being approved and six deferred, t pending inspection and report. Tho board visited the gum-cleaning works at Penrose, where special tests t are being mad" 1 with different classes of gum, and, in particular, with regard to the possibility of cleaning gum direct from the diggers' washing machines. This, it is thought, would eliminate delay, expense and losses in drying and Winnowing the poorer qualities of gum. Operations on the plant have resulted In an improved product. A trial sample of the cleaned grades is being sent to Australia for the purpose of testing out , 'the suitability of the cleaned product for ! the manufacture of special lacquer "textures, for which purpose the board believes there is likely to be a big ingThe next meeting of the board will he held On October 23.
