RUN IN DIVISIONS.

THE MAIDEN PLATE. TOTALISATOR OPEN ONCE ONLY. The Maiden Plate will be run in divisions, and though this will make nino races on the programme the totalisator will only be open once, the dividends being paid on the first horse in each division only. Alloy started on half a dozen occasions last, season, but failed to get into the money. Carmint was third into the straight in the Auckland Handicap, one mile, at the Pakuranga Hunt meeting last month and should be improved. Clopton has only started once, and that was when he ran unplaced in the Great Northern Foal Stakes, but he is a promising sort, and is a likely one. Gay Duke raced as a two-year-old last season and showed speed. Measurer was second in the Maiden Handicap, seven furlongs, at the last Avondale meeting, while he was also placed at the Franklin meeting. He has been going along all right in his work at Ellerslie recently. Coupled with Measurer is Mountain Guide, who finished third in the Auckland Handicap, one mile, at the Pakuranga meeting, who has also been getting through fair work at headquarters. Of the others, Theodolite has most pace. In the first division the public will probably go for MEASURER CLOPTON. The Second Division. In the second division Crimestor will have a lot of friends after his gallop at Avondale yesterday, when he did the best half of the morning. He was second in a division of the Stakes, five furlongs, at Pukekolie last May. Fraser was a promising two-year-old last season, being placed on three occasions. Gold Lily showed some pace in her races last season, and the same remarks apply to Otranto, who promises to be above the average. Restaurant and Bert Hinkler may appeal most of the others. Most of the money -may go on CRIMESTOR FRASER, H The Kingsland Hurdle Race. Lady Spalpeen is top-wciglit in the Kingsland Hurdle Race". She was placed on four occasions last season and has been going well at Ellerslie recently. Wajtzer finished second in the Corunna Hurdle Race at Wellington last July. He shows a lot of speed in his races and can jump all right, but he has not raced since the fixture-mentioned. Red Comet showed ability over hurdles a couple of seasons ago, and the same remarks apply to Gold Rep. Harbour View finished second to Prince Lu in the Orakei Hurdle Race at the Great' Northern meeting, and Glena Bay occupied a similar position to Lady Gay at tho recent Marton meeting. Master Doou was third to "Amorist and Horomea in the Vittoria Hurdle Race at Trentham last July, and Master Roley was third to Mangani and Stormy and second to Ripon Abbey in two hurdle events at the Waikato spring meeting. He also finished second, to Soami in tho Hunters' Hurdle Race at the Pakuranga Hunt meeting. Master Clements, Sir Archie, Sleepy Sol and Wako King may be most favoured of those lower down. The principal selections when the machine closes may be LADY SPALPEEN MASTER ROLEY SLEEPY SOL. The Members' Handicap. Twenty are carded for the Members' Handicap. Dave is a good sprinter, and i£ right he should go a good. race. He has not worked during the last couple of days owing to hitting himself.- Mervette has not had a race for some time, but when properly wound up is a, mare of class. Flying Prince was a good two-year-old last season and he won the Dunedin Handicap, six furlongs, so well at the Pakuranga Hunt Club meeting from a really good field that he will not be neglected. Leader has only started three times this season and has won on each occasion, his last two successes being at the Grand National meeting. He has been going along well since his arrival at Ellerslie. Marble King performed well in all three races he contested at the Wellington meeting, being placed on the first two days over six furlongs and winning the Onslow Handicap, of similar distance, in; the last day from a good field, including Black Duke, Taboo and Kaiti. He failed to get into a place in the Dunedin Handicap, won by Flying Prince, at the Pakuranga meeting, which was his last start. Billikius is a very speedy s6rt and won this event last seasou in very easy style. She was second to Gold Money iii the Members' Handicap, six furlongs, at the Great Northern meeting and has had some racing in the interim. Lady's Boy is another with plenty of pace and has "been going along all right in his work at Ellerslie recently. Oration has had a good deal of racing recently and should not lack on the score of condition, while Value has not scored since she won on this course in the autumn. Carl Idem showed pace as a two-year-old last season, while of the others Mithra, Cymon, Tahoma and Welkne may be best supported. The favourite division may be

LEADER FLYING PRINCE LADY'S BOY. The Big Event. The Avondale Cup is the principal event of the day, and this year it is run over a mile and a-quarter, as against a miie and a-half for some seasons previously. Star Stranger is a good horse and ]io lias a good horse's "weight. He looks

•well and has had some racing, but one is of the opinion that there are several below who will keep him very busy throughout, l'rincc Humphrey won the A.J.C. Derby last season and later was galloped on when contesting the V.R.C. Derby. He was not raced again till the rccent Marton meeting, when lie ran unplaced in a six-furlong race won by his stable companion, Eaglet. However, ho was second to Laughing Prince in the Flying Handicap, of similar distance, at the Wanganui meeting, which was his only start since. He has 9.0, and all he is entitled to. Historic performed well up to a mile and three furlongs last season and this season in his second start won the Winter Cup. He was not started a.t Wanganui, but. ho is a very fit horse at present. He will have a lot of friends. Paddon has done well since he made his reappearance on the race track some months ago. He won at Waikato, was second in the Cornwall Handicap, one mile and a-quarter, at the Great Northern meeting, annexed (lie Whvte Handicap, one mile, at Trentham, and finished second in the Dunedin Handicap, six furlongs, at the Pakuranga fixture. He has been going along well at Te Rapa in tho interim and promises to be one of the hardest to beat. Prodicc was one of the best three-year-olds in New Zealand last season, and her chances cannot bo discounted. She has won up to a mile and a-half. Barometer won the Jellicoe Handicap, one mile and a-quarter, at the I

Pakuranga Hunt meeting, and since then scored in the two chief handicap events at Marton. High Pitch lias shown good form up to a mile and a-quarter, winning the Foley Memorial at Avondale and last July accounting for the Parliamentary Handicap, one mile and a-quarter, at Trentliam. Singleton was also a fairly good performer last season and had to give 61b to High Pitcli in the Parliamentary Handicap, the latter beating him by a length. Now High Pitcli has to give him lib. Hyde Park never looked so well as he is at present. King Emerald has run some good races up to a mile and a-quarter, while Piuthair was the best mare in New Zealand a couple of seasons ago, winning the Taranaki, Egmont and Wanganui Cups and the Great Autumn Handicap, one mile and a-lialf, at Riccarton. She showed she was returning to form by her second in the Higgie Handicap at Wanganui last Saturday. • Of the lighter-weighted division The Lover will appeal most, for he has been going along excellently in his work at Elleirslie and last season won three mile and a-quarter events. The most of the money may go on

HISTORIC PADDON PRODICE. The Two-year-old Classic. Twenty-seven are paid up for in the Avondale Stakes, Gesture having been scratched. Appeal and Lineage were both started in the Debutante Stakes at Wanganui, but failed to show up during the running. Biddy's Boy is one of i. Looinb's team and can go fast.. This trainer has won this event with Phaola and Prodice during the last four seasons. Cylinder, one of J. H. Jefferd's charges, has not raced, but Hard Words (Diacquenod—Mazabuka), in J. T. Jamieson's stable, showed some speed in the Two-year-ohl Parade at Wanganui. Illuminagh and Valmaire are also in F. Loomb's stable. Ruling King lias shown a lot of pace in his work at Ellerslie and is sure to have a lot of friends. Foot Rule was third in the Debutante Stakeat Wanganui to Simba and Isa. It is stated that the latter will not be brought up for the meeting. Of the others Vanessa, Grand Spirit, Watch Officer and Oil King may be the best. The bulk of the investments may be 011

RULING KING BIDDY'S BOY HARD WORDS. The Big Sprint. Benzora and Silvermine are at the head of affairs in the Flying Handicap. Both are good sprinters, but the latter, on his W anganui form, looks to be the best. He led into the straight in the Flying Handicap, which was his first race this season and lie is about at his best now. He ran second in this event, last season and subsequently won the Stewards' Handicap at Riccarton and finished second in the Raih\ ay Handicap at Ellerslie. Gold

Money lias performed most consistently during the last few months, winning a double at the Great Northern meeting and finishing third in her next effort— the Dunedin Handicap at the Pakuranga meeting. Lucy Rose won the King George Handicap, seven furlongs, at the Great Northern fixture, and is a good sprinter, while Lady Quex is also endowed with a lot of pace. Flying Juliet has had her attention confined to middle distance events during last season, but Eaglet has been successful in the only two starts she has had this season. Awarere has not raced for a while, but looks well, while Kingfield is reported to have done all right in his preparation. The Begum and Ruffles appeal best of the others engaged. When the machine closes the public may have given most support to

EAGLET GOLD MONEY SILVER MINE. The Swanson Handicap. Good Boy, who heads the list in the Swanson Handicap, was a fair performer last season, winning two events and being placed 011 other occasions. Lei trim showed a great dash of speed when lie finished second to Gold Money in the Visitors' Handicap, six furlongs, on the concluding day of the Great Northern meeting, and he would only require to be as well to be very hard to beat. Indolent scored over a mile at the Waikato autumn meeting and was placed on other occasions. Sea Cob won the Auckland Handicap, one mile, in good style at the Pakuranga Hunt meeting, which was his first start this season. Some Lady was placed 011 half a dozen occasions last season without getting the thick end of the purse, while Mountain Guide was third to Sea Cob and Maori Boy at Pakuranga. Takarunga occupied a similar position to Refresher and Arikitoa in the Sylvia Handicap, seven furlongs, at the same fixture. Arihana disappointed at the Great Northern meeting, though he won a double at the Avondale meeting in the autumn, both scvenfurlong events. Motere was a promising two-year-old, and, after getting away badly in the Sylvia Handicap at the Pakuranga meeting, finished close up behind the placed horses. Crown Arch looks the most likely of the others engaged. The chief fancies may be

MOTERE SEA COB TAKARANGA. The Concluding Event. The day's sport will conclude with the Henderson Handicap, and probably the favourite division will be OHINEMURT STANDFAST LE CHOUCAS. There will be a frequent train service to the course.

TE AROHA JOTTINGS. BLACK MAIKE SPELLED. ENTRIES FOR ELLERSLIE. TE AROHA, Thursday. Black Maire. Ah Wera and Glenison arrived back from Wanganui 011 Tuesday, and have all improved by the trip. As' A. E. Cox considered they had done sufficient racing on the tour they were not accepted for at Avondale. The Te Arolia entrants for the Auckland spring meeting arc Ah Wera, The Lamb, Black Mairc, Lucky Alice, Belle Star, William of Orange, Crown Arch, Glenstar and Queen Arch. This part will lie well represented at the fixture, as they are all nicely forward as.regards racing condition. Glenstar benefited by his racing at Wanganui, and if the Avondale track happens to be firm be should be prominent in his engagements, but not otherwise. Crown Arch will make his first appearance in public this season. He has not been executing convincing work, but races well 011 a light preparation. Archeen has improved considerably since rejoining G. A. Reid's team, and may get into the money before the meeting concludes. J. 11. Wallace left this morning with Belle Star, William of Orange, and Lucky Alice. Of this trio Belle Star is the most likely to run well, although it' may be too much to expect this Lucullus lilly to win in her first attempt.

E. A. Ivcesing joined the ranks of the benedicts this week, his marriage to Miss Iris Masters being, solemnised at Paeroa. The newlv-married couple will take up their residence at To Arolia. Mr. J. McNicol's brown lilly by Glen Albyn, a full sister to Woody Glen, has been named Miss Albyn. In her early training work she did not thrive at all satisfactorily, but during the past three months lias shown a vast improvement, having built up a lot, and putting more dash into her track tasks. It is quite a probability that in due course she may emulate the deeds of Woody Glen.

Many racegoers will doubtless be interested in the King Lu colt, King Win, who is due to make his first public appearance at Avondale. He is probably not sufficiently forward yet to enter the winning ranks, 'but appears to be of a decidedly generous nature, and he will not be found shirking his task. Mr. R. B. Hincs' other two-ycar-dld, Art Gallery, is speedy, and will be improved by the trip. By Lucullus from Picture, by St. Amans—Shower Gold, by Marble Arch— Merry Nif, she is bred 011 winning lines, and her turn should come in due course.

Ten days ago the track work of Marble King was not nearly as convincing as it was previous to the Wellington meeting, and he was beaten twice over short distances by Queen Arch. During the past week he has commenced to freshen up, and this morning reeled off a very nice gallop over four furlongs with a fair weight up.

The Lamb is standing up well to his work. He has not been jumped much lately, but apparently does not need much in the way of schooling.

Bert Ilinkler, who is to race 011 Saturday, is showing pace 011 the training tracks, and with any luck in the running may run up to his form. He will probably be ridden by C. Francc.

This morning track workers were reduced in number by tlie fact of G. Eeid's quartet being at Ayondalo and A. E. Cox's southern travelling trio resting at lipme. Good serviceable work was executed by Wee Prince, King Lap, The Lamb, Dainty Arch, Miss; Albyn, William of Orange, Unique, Lucky Alice, Master Latou'r, Grand Arch, and Gay Comet. Sir Russell strode along at •better than three-quarter pace over two rounds of the plough, and Queen Arch was indulged in a similar task. The Day Comet colt, Balfour was trotted a couple of rounds, and Belle Star put plenty of vim into a six furlongs gallop. Marble King showed disinclination to a standing start, and then ran half a mile in 525, finishing nicely. Bert Hinklcr ran 'out five furlongs in a workmanlike style in 1.5, with his trainer up, and King Win was given light exercise only.
