Dr. W. Todd, late of Kaikolie, lias been appointed medical officer at Murcliisou by the Nelson Hospital Board.
Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Stoekdale, of Timaru, returned by the Port Melbourne to-day from England and the Continent.
Mr. and Mrs. H. D. Caro (Hamilton), Mr. R. S. Widley (Timaru), and Mr. T. Silk (Wanganui) are at Hotel Cargen. Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Reid (Napier), Mr. H. C. Kent (Wellington), and Mr. E. M. Kirsch (New York) are at the Grand Hotel.
Mr. H. C. Thomas, of "Wellington, manager for New Zealand of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Films, is staying at the Central Hotel.
Mr. and Mrs. Percy Jackson and daughter arrived at Auckland to-day by the Port Melbourne from London after an extended tour.
Guests at the Star Hotel are Mr. J. St. John Smith (Christcliureh), Mr. M. Jansen (Wellington), Mr. B. Stewart (Rotorua), Mr. G. E. King (Kohukohu).
Mr. E. McLean Smith, manager of the Taihape branch of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., has been appointed manager of the Palmerston North branch of the firm.
Canon C. H. Grant Co wen has accepted the office of honorary chaplain to the Fire Brigades' Association, in place of the Rev. W. E. Gillam, whose recent death rendered the office vacant. .
Mr. J. Churchouse and Mr. L. MeIlvride, president and general secretary respectively of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants, are visiting Auckland over the week-end on matters affecting the organisation.
Dr. J. W. Scholium, who has been ship's surgeon on the Port Melbourne, is revisiting New Zealand after an absence of 13 years. He has a month's furlough, and part of the time he will spend with his father at Puhoi.
Arrivals at the Central Hotel are Mr. G. ChalYev (Tokomaru Bay). Mr. A. Mcintosh (Gisborne), Mr. 0. G. Kcmber, Mr. J. B. Gaisford (Wellington), Mr. and Mrs. W. Bongard (Thames), Mr. J. Davidson, Mr. T. G. Davidson (Darjraville).
Mr. H. T. Merritt, president of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce, Mr. M. Stewart, vice-president, and Mr. L. A. Eady and Mr. A. M. Seaman, members of the chamber, will represent the chamber at the Conference of Associated Chambers* to be held in Auckland next month.
