"THE CHAMBER'S JOURNAL"
COMMERCIAL PUBLICATION. The current issue of the "Auckland Chamber of Commerce Journal" is claimed by the president, Mr, H. T. Merritt, as an important event in the journal's history. The size of the publication has been increased nearly two-fold, and a num-
ber of new features have been introduced. As the result of a remit unanimously adopted at the recent conference of Auckland provincial chambers, the journal becomes the official organ,' not only for the Auckland Chamber, but for all within the province. Dr. E. P. Neale continues as editor.
As usual the journal contains an analysis of business conditions. In this connection, after noting "the slowly falling tendency of world prices," the editor proceeds: "At the present moment the Dominion has just passed the crest of an upward wave of export prices superimposed on the general falling trend as evidenced, for instance, by the movement of import prices. There is every indication on the analogy of past experience, reinforced by the high bank rates prevailing in London and New York', that export
prices are likely to fall for a year or two to come. Because, however, local conditions are invariably slow in reacting to changes in export price levels it is likely to be some time before there is any general worsening of economic conditions in New Zealand. Almost all available indexes are at the moment showing improving conditions, and this is a state of affairs that is likely to be in evidence still for quite a number of months to come."
