AUCKLAND'S WELCOME.
COMMERCE CONFERENCE. PROGRAMME IN HAND. A round of social functions has been arranged in addition to the routine of the conferenco of tho Associated Chambers of Commerce, to be held in Auckland on October 14 and 15. Six years
have passed since the last Dominion gathering was held in this city. Mr. C. P. Agar, of Christchurch, who is vice-president of the association, will preside. It was anticipated an Auckla.nder would bo at the head of the conference, but the position of president became vacant through the death of Mr. H. P. Caughey within a few weeks of his election to office. Addresses have been arranged to be delivered by Mr. L. A. Paish, the newlyappointed British trade commissioner in New Zealand, Dr. E. Marsden, permanent head of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, and Mr. R. L. Ziman, of Auckland. * Delegates are expected to number about 60, and many will be accompanied by their wives. They should reach Auckland on the morning of Saturday, October 12 and will probably be taken on a harbour excursion on Saturday afternoon. In the evening a theatre party will be held. On Sunday afternoon members will be taken on a motor run, and they will be the guests of the Auckland chamber at a banquet on Monday evening. The monthly luncheon on Tuesday will be held in honour of the visitors. The business of the conference will bo concerned with the discussion of remits on jnumeroup economic questions, submitted, by affiliated chambers. The constitution of .the associated chambers will also bo discussed. Arrangements for the approaching con-
ference were considered at the meeting of the council of the Auckland chamber this afternoon. '
