THE BIRKENHEAD FERRY.
BOROUGH COUNCIL DISCUSSION.
Some discussion took place on the subject of the ferry service at last night's meeting of the Birkenhead Borough Council.
Mr. R. Hay man suggested that the 11.10 p.m. trip from Auckland should be run five minutes earlier, to enable the return trip from Birkenhead to land passengers in Auckland in time to catch the last car.
Mr. Alexander pointed out that this would also assist in connecting with the Devonport boat. Mr. Jasper said a petition was in course of signature asking that the proposed three additional night vehicular trips to Northcote should also run to Birkenhead. There was a rumour that these late services would only run to Northcote. , ~ , Mr Alexander said they should not quarrel with that, for it had to be remembered that the ordinary Birkenhead cargo boat would not be engaged for the extra trips. The Devonport vehicular boat would probably make atterna e trips to Devonport and Northcote, and i was a question whether there would be time to run to Birkenhead also on these 1 The Mayor and Messrs.
