RATEPAYERS' association
Ihe monthly meeting of the Takapuna Western Area Ratepayers and Residents' Association was held yesterday afternoon at St. Joheph's Orphanage, Takapuna. -Mrs. J. C. Blomfield presided. It was reported that during the last month per"i 1 ™ 1011 down the old hedge in front u a ' n '°^ a Pn'k has been obtained (and the: work begun), and to build a rockery to replace it. The parks committee has proposed that a floral fete lie held at a future date not yet decided. The Borough Council had decided that the name '"Parklands" shall cover the area as from Pupuke l'oad to Smale's Corner, the definite acceptance of the name to be dccided by vote before December 24. A committee of four ladies. Mesdames Byrne, Maxwell. Brown, •'and Miss Banbury, was appointed to visit the sick. Strong exception was expressed by the members of the association present at the raising by £o0 of the town clerk's salary when it was stated many of the Botough Council employees were discharged—almost on the same day—for lack of funds to pay them. A'fternoon tea was served by Miss Banbury and Mrs. Byrne.
