MYSTERY AT MENTAL
HOSPITAL.
BABY FOUND IN TRUNK.
CORONER STOPS FUNERAL.
Ihe death occurred at the Auckland Mental Hospital of Miss Lily Wall, a single woman, who had been cmp'oyed there for the past three years as assistant cook, and when search of her elTec;s was being made the body of a newlyborn child was found concealed in a trunk under her bed.
The Mental Hospital authorities were reticent and declined to make any statement in regard to the matter when approached this morning. Arrangements had been made for Miss funeral to take place this morning, but they were cancelled and a post-mortem examination was ordered by the coronet, Mr. F. K. Hunt.
Miss Wall had been in good health up to August 14 last, when she complained of influenza, and was treated by a medical man. She later complained of palpitation, and yesterday took a sudden change for the worse and died in two hours.
Miss Wall was formerly a nurse, but latterly she had been acting as cook temporarily. A post-mortem examination was made this morning at the hospital, and an inquest will be held later. The funeral took place this afternoon, and the mourners included twelve nurses in uniform from the Mental Hospital. Mi.ss Wall's age is given as 2S vears.
