BIRKENHEAD BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The fortnightly meeting of the Birkenliead Borough Council was held last evening. The Mayor (Mr. Jas. P. McPhail) presided. Deputy-Mayor's Illness.— Owing to illhealth, "the Deputy-Mayor, Mr. L. K. 'L. Moller, was granted leave or absence for six months. . . Street Collections. — Permission was for street collections to the Birkenhead School Committee for the 21st inst. for a dental clinic, and to the -New. Zealand Society for the Protection -of Women and Children for 27th inst. The Mayor was appointed delegate to the conference convened by the Onehunga Borough Council to discuss the advisability of limiting street collections. Reservoir Level.—The indicator ot the level of the reservoir is to be attached to the council office, an antfal charge of _£G 15/ for the maintenance of the lme having been agreed to. . Septic Tanks—Applications to install septic tanks were withheld., pending consideration of the adoption of a policy in this respect and the effect on the drainage question. Onewa Footpath—The footpath in. Onewa Street is to be restored to its former level by the removal ot the filling, this offer having been accepted by the several property owners concerned. ' Queen Carnival—An application to be ■ allowed to erect street stalls for two days was made on behalf oi the Friendly ' Societies' carnival committee. Consideration was deferred till next meeting. Poppy Fund Work—The Mayor said residents at Beach Haven had expressed ■ appreciation of the great improvement ' that had been effected in Puriri Road by ' the expenditure of the Poppy Day dona--1 tion and subsidy.
