'CHRISTCHURCH, this day. The weather was mild while training operations were in progress at Riccarton this morning. All the fast work was done on the No. 7 grass track, which provided first-class going, and some

The Viscount and his two-year-old brother showed great speed 'in a run from the three-furlong post. Amourette and Don Jose covered six furlongs. There was not much between them at the end of a smart effort.

Prickles was going better than Royal Flower at the linish of a useful spin over .six furlongs.

Airplane away in front of Wrigley and Rapier at the six-furlong post and held his place in front to the end. Rapier, however, was going comfortably.

Quick Plunge beat Bladon in an easy run over five furlongs. Haze galloped six furlongs by himself and did it in good style. Pangolin was going easily all through a spin over six furlongs. Kate Kelly and Louise were together in a useful six-furlong gallop. Caterpillar sprinted half a mile, going ia very attractive style, while her stable mate Malmsey registered a good performance for six furlongs.

Amor and Leader were responsible for a smart ' effort over six furlongs. Amor, on the inside, was showing out at the end of throe furlongs, and he had a neck advantage at the finish. It was a nico piece of work and a wind up to their preparation before they leave for Auckland.

Waihenio (A. J. Peart) and Rangiawhio (G. Salt) were schooled once round the hurdles, giving a fair display. Miss Nightraid and Ranelagh were associated in a useful five-furlong spin. Red Heckle and Sea Raid showed a lot of speed in a run over six furlongs.

Flair ran six - furlongs alone in good. style, without being ridden out. Count Cavour and Moy Hall were companions over six furlongs, going at an even pace and finishing well. Sweet Refrain was not doing her best at any stage of a six-furlong gallop. Proud Knight sprinted half a mile and was going comfortably at the end. Bulolo just beat Pahautanui 'at the end of a very smart five-furlong spin. Aladdin covered six furlongs, showing fair speed all through without being ridden out. Summer hours will be commenced at Riccarton next week, when the tracks will be open for training operations each morning at five o'clock. T. H. Gillett will leave on Thursday ! for Auckland with Amor and Leader. They will compete in handicap events at Avondale and then wait for the Auckland Racing Club's spring meeting, at which Leader will tackle the North Island three-year-olds in the Great Northern Guineas. Gillett has his pair in the best of health. Tlio three-year-old gelding Meprisant, by Paladin from Disdainful, will 1- ave his first race next week, when he will contest the Trial Plate at Ashburton. Claridge has returned from his successful trip to Wingatui, where Rascal and Fresh Breeze were winners at the Otago Hunt Club's meeting on Saturday. Mr. H. M. Reeves had the misfortune recently to lose his brood mare Sleepy Head, who died after foaling a colt to Shambles. He has ha dfurther bad luck, as the colt has since died. Mr. A. B. Williams' imported mare Sweet Charity has foaled a colt to Shambles in Australia, where she has gone to be mated with Gothic.
