PROGRAMME FOR TO-MORROW

THE FIELDS BE VIE WED. A great deal of interest will centre the Wanganui Jockey Club's spring mee ing, which opens to-morrow, for it ms serve to throw some light on the Avoi dale fixture later in the month. Tl fields, with the exception of the Guinea are excellent, and if the weather is fix the club should have a most successfi meeting. The Maiden Race. Twenty-three are carded for tl: Maiden Race, with which the programni opens. Juggle was third at Trenthai and second at Marton, while Whenuc tonga finished- second at Dannevirke an third to Austerity and Juggle at Martoi Potoaform was third at Dannevirke, an Retract and Ross Ferry occupiet simila positions on the same course. Roundela was second to Last Mark over six fui longs at the Wellington winter meeting but has not started since. Duellona wa third twice last season, while Equitan (who was a good but unlucky two-year old last season), after being one of th leaders till the straight in the Tria Plate at Marton, finished out of a place However, that race should.improve hei Glenison has shown promising form, thi season, and Pat's Boy, who.showed up i) the Longbeach Handicap at Riccarton las month, may be the best of the others Probably the public will fancy ROUNDELAY JUGGLE. . PAT'S BOY. The Okenu Hurdles. Glengariff has top-weight in the Okeln Hurdles. He wag a good horse last season, winning four events and being placec on other occasions. His last success was at the Egruont winter meeting, when h< annexed the Tongahoe Hurdles. Elysianoi was third in the Trentham Hurdles a 1 Wellington and subsequently scored a 1 the South Canterbury meeting. He was second to Red Fuchsia when the lattei won the Sydenham Hurdles at Riccarton He appeared to be in good fettle at Marton. Novarhas also a useful record ovei hurdles last season, and if the track is on the firm side he should go well. Sunart may find the pace a little too strong for him. Beaumont has not much tc commend him recently, while Brigadiei Bill's last successes were in the Adanison Steeplechase and the Wanganui Steeplechase last May. Prince Lu won . two races at the Auckland winter meeting, both mile and three-quarter events, and though he. was not successful at Wellington he set a very solid pace in the races he contested. Prince Lu would only need to be in form to be hard to dispose of. Fine Acre has only won one hurdle race and fell at Marton last week when leading. Airtight is a useful sort, while Tlmrnbell has shown good promise in his hurdle engagements during the last few months. Peshwa and Lady Gay have both scored recently, the latter at the Marton meeting after running second on the first day. The chief fancies may be PRINCE LU ELYSIANOR THURNBELL. The Putiki Hack Handicap. Disrank, who figures at the head of affaire in the Putiki Hack Handicap, was a good performer last season, scoring over a mile and a distance at Woodville, a mile at Dannevirke, and a mile and 55 yards at Otaki. He has not raced this season. Royal Black ran two good races sit Marton, winning the Spring Hack, one .mile and 137 yards, with. 8.9; and being narrowly beaten by Calithe in the Bracelet of similar distance. Black Maire also showed up in his engagements there and should bo an improved horse to-morrow. Shrewd annexed the Balgownie Handicap, one mile and a distance, at the last Wanganui fixture, while Desert Lad scored over seven furlongs at the recent Marton fixture and looked like staying on over a longer course. Balloon failed at Marton, but Singer was successful over seven furlongs at the Taranaki Hunt meeting recently, and is reported to be very well. Metellus showed ability up to a mile and a-quarter last season, while of the others Tourist, Trig, Arrowhead, Austerity and War Flame may appeal most. The bulk of the money may go on SINGER BLACK MAIRE DESERT LAD. The Seafield Handicap. Reremoana has the steadier of 10.2 in the Seafield Handicap, and he showed at Marton that he was likely to return to his best form shortly. Star Area has not raced since the autumn, but Gold Cure showed good form at Trentham and Ricearton and also finished third to Barometer and Black Mint in the Marton Handicap last week. High Faliitin , has also been off the scene since the last Manawatu meeting, but nevertheless is a good sort. Partaga is a good sprinter, while Royal Game ran well at Riccarton and Marton. Havering scored very easily over seven furlongs at the Wellington winter meeting after being placed in two six-furlong races on the previous days of the meeting. Of the others Rameses may have most friends. When the machine closes most money may be on GOLD CURE HAVERING ROYAL GAME. The Classic Event. The Wanganui Guineas is the first classic of the season. There are only four engaged, and Eaglet, after her success at Marton, is sure to be favourite. Admiral Drake was a useful two-year-old last season and has been galloping well at Hastings, while False Scent went well at Wanganui yesterday morning. My Own, a half-sister to Runnymede and a sister to Raasay, won one event last season and finished second on three occasions. Most of the investments will go on EAGLET. The Durie Hack Handicap. Fourteen have been paid up for in the Durie Hack Handicap. Knightlike, who is at the head of the list, was raced at Marton, and showed up for a while. Royal Lineage scored over six furlongs at the Hawke's Bay Hunt meeting, and Brilliant Light won the Seatoun Handicap, seven furlongs, at Trentham. Valpre failed at Marton. Cuticle won over seven ) furlongs as a two-year-old last season, while Lucky Bag annexed the Kia Ora Handicap of similar distance at the last Wellington meeting. Zarcne lias a lot of pace, as has Blue Paper, who won at Dannevirke. Pclkitte had her first race this season at Marton last 'Atirsday and led till well into, the straight, finishing fourth. She should be improved. Some

i Acre was twice second at Marton and should run well. Monoloff and Paiko may b<s most troublesome of the others. The best backed when betting ceases may be SOME ACRE BRILLIANT LIGHT PELLETTE. The Marangai Handicap. The Marangai Handicap is the chief flat event of the day. Star Stranger has had a couple of races this season and looks as though he is coming back to form. Yoma was a good horse last season, but the distance may be a bit too short for him. Cashier, if at his best, looks a very likely proposition. Talisker has been going well at Wanganui, but Bisox has disappointed lately. She should not lack on the score of racing condition. Blimp was second in the Railway Handicap at Marton and was beaten into fourth place on the second day, but if he has improved in the interim he should go well, for he ran second in this event last season after scoring in the Railway Handicap at Marton. He is very useful when right. Otairi won the Winter Oats Handicap at Wellington after being successful in the Carbine Plate at Ellerslie. He did not run a bad race in the Winter Cup either. Spearmisa failed at Marton, but Royal Game, who has a prior engagement, and Black Mint (a bracket if the pa'ir start) will have friends. Black Mint has raced consistently lately. High Court won the Dannevirke Cup last season and performed well in other middle distance races. Air Laddie may be best backed of the others. The public are likely to lend most support to BLIMP • CASHIER, OTAIRI.
