CYCLES INSTEAD OF TRAMS.
WANGANUFS PREFERENCE. COUNCIL IN A DILEMMA. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WANGANUI, this day. The Borough Council is losing £75 a day on its train service, and the future of the service is uncertain. The curtailment of the service, recently ordered by the council, has given anything but satisfaction to the public, In the meantime cycle dealers are doing a roaring trade, and an unprecedented demand for second-hand bicycles for school pupils and adults has set in. The council is to hold a special meeting to reconsider the curtailment. Some of°the councillors favour setting up a commission of inquiry, Mr. J. S. Barton, S.M., being mentioned as a desirable chairman.
