RATEPAYERS' MEETING.

"The transport of school children now costs the Education Department in the vicinity of £90,000 a year, and any proposal to increase the expenditure must Hp rarefullv considered," stated the Minister of Education (Hon. H. Atmore) in a letter which was read at a meeting of the Howick Ratepayers' Association. The letter was one in reply to a request for assistance to convey school childien from Howick to Auckland. A letter was received from the Howick School Committee stating that as a result of funds collected a concrete cricket pitch had been put down at the school A resolution was passed congratulating the Town Board on the way that the problem to get a water supply had been faced. , The Oddfellows' Lodge social will be on September 16,
