HURDLES TO HARD GOLD. ' ROYAL BLACK TAKES HACK MILE. (By Telegraph.—Special to " Star." MARTON JUNCTION, this day. The Marton Jockey Club's spring : meeting opened in windy weather — ' before a good attendance—and will terminate, on Thursday. The track is slightly holding. Eighteen went to the post for the Trial Plate, for which Equitant ( £420), Lucre (£239) and Austerity (£101) were best backed. When the field settled down Glenison was in charge from Piako, Equitant, Lucre and Arrowzone. Crossing the top Glenison was two lengths clear of Lucre, with Equitant, Piako and Marica' next. Lucre was in front turning for home, followed by Glenison, Equitant and Kotaki Eka. Lucre went on to win by three lengths from Kotaki Eka, who beat Austerity by a similar distance. Then came Guard of Honour, Glenison, Equitant and Bed Lane. The Hurdlers. Royal Damon, Ned Kelly, Inferno, Ironic and Gun Area were not saddled up for the First Hack Hurdles. Glena Bay ( £252), Peshwa ( £221) and Lady Gay ( £214) were most in request. Lady Gay, Powliiri, Starshell, Peswha and San Fera were prominent at the start, but passing the stands Powliiri was in command from Starshell, Royal Elm, Lady Gay, Peshwa and San Fera. Along the back Ah Wera had taken charge, with Powliiri, Starshell, Hard Gold, Lady Gay and Royal Elm following. Ah Wera held his position across the top from Hard Gold, Lady Gay, Glena Bay and Peshwa. Hard Gold was first into the straight, attended by All Wera, Lady Gay and Peshwa, and went on to win in easy fashion by eight lengths from Lady Gay, who beat Ah Wera by two lengths.
