WESTFIELD SALES. Dalgety and Co. report;— To-day at our weekly Westfield fat stock market we penned beef in average numbers, the quality of which was first-class. Competition was steady, and last week's values were fully maintained, especially for medium-weight cattle. Heavy cattle comprised the bulk of the yarding, for which values were a shade easier. Extra choice ox sold to 44/ per 1001b; choice and prime ox, 41/ to 43/; secondary and plain ox, 38/ to 40/; prime young cow and heifer beef, 40/ to 42/; ordinary cow beef, 37/ to 39/; extra heavy prime steers ranged in price from £16 10/ to £17; heavy prime steers, £15 to £15 5/; lighter prime steers, £13 10/ to £14 10/; light prime steers, £12 2/6 to £13; small and unfinished steers, £11 5/ to £12; extra heavy prime young cows and heifers, £15 to £16; heavy prime cows and heifers, £11 to £12 5/; lighter prime cows and heifers, £9 12/6 to £10 10/; other billable cows, £8 7/6.
Alfred Bucklaiul and Sons, Ltd., report: To-day at our weekly Westfield fat stock market our supply of fat cattle numbered 244 head, as against 235 head at last Wednesday's sale, comprising 157 steers and 8G cows and heifers. There were more heavy cattle yarded, as values for these were a trifle easier. First quality mediumweight steers and heifers sold at fully late rates. Extra choice ox sold to £2 4/ per 1001b; choice and prime ox, £2 1/ to £2 3/; secondary and plain ox, £1 18/ to £2; prime young cow and heifer beef, £1 18/ to £2 2/; ordinary cow beef, £1 14/ to £1 17/; extra heavy prime steers ranged in price from £10 10/ to £22 2/6; heavy prime steers, £16 10/ to £17 6/; light prime £9 to £11 17/6; other billable cows, £6 steers, £14 ~xi[ to £16 7/6; small and unfinished steers, £11 to £14 5/'; extra heavy prime young cows and heifers. £14 to £16 ')/; heavy prime cows and heifers, £12 to £13 7/6; lighter prime cows and heifers, £9 to £11 17/6; other billable cows, £6 to £8 17/6.
