LAWN TENNIS.
DOMINION ASSOCIATION. WIDE POPULARITY OF THE GAME. (By Telegnph.—Press Association.) 1 WELLINGTON, Monday. The annual meeting of the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association was held this evening, the president, Mr. J. C. Peacock, presiding. In moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet the president said the number of tennis players in New Zealand was now 27,000, and on a population basis that was the largest number of almost any country in the world. The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted: —Patron, the GovernorGeneral; president, Mr. M. Femvicke (Hastings); vice-presidents, presidents of district associations; delegate to the Lawn Tennis Association, London, and to the International Lawn Tennis Federation, Mr. F. H. Woodward; management committee, Messrs. M. 1 (. Denniston, G. Gore, H. I. Graves, A. (J. Henderson, N. A. Foden, S. A. Longuet, P. White Parsons; lion, auditor, Mr. F. 0. Austin. The new president was New Zealand singles champion —1889, 1892 and 1893. In 18S6 he won the New Zealand championship doubles with P. C. Femvicke, in 1889 with J. F. Jardine and in 1891 with A. F- Logan. Mr. N. A. Foden gave notice of motion that in future years the balls to be used at New Zealand championships should be selected on the vote of the council, The management committee of the New Zealand Association is in communication with the South African Association with the object of arranging for a visit of a South African team to New Zealand in 1931. It was also stated that it was expected the management committee would be able to arrange for a visit from an Australian team during the coming year.
