RICCARTON NOTES.

FIRST SIGHT A BOLD GALLOPER. laxcer axd zeuxis spellixg. (By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.") CHRIST CHURCH, this day. First Sight is striding along freely in his track work, and he is rapidly getting into racing shape. He will have his first outing of the season at Ashburton this month, and probably he will have a run at another meeting near home before he tackles Biccarton engagements in Xovember, by which time he should be at the top of his form. First Sight is a "showy" horse, and a very bold galloper, who has only to train on properly to win good races this season. Among the two-year-olds in training at Kiccarton a couple by Shambles in F. D. Jones' stable are shaping well. They are Coroner, a gelding ' from Coronata and Whatnot, and a filly from Heath Lass. These two have not been seriously tried out. but they have shown in short sprints that they possess some speed. J. Russell has them working along quietly in Jones' absence in Sydney, and they should be ready to race in November. A three-year-old filly by Thurnham from Divinia has joined T. H. Gillett's activo team, but some time will elapse before she is ready to race. She is a half-sister to Charlatan," and she looks a likely sort to develop into a useful galloper. The hurdler Lancer has been on the easy list since the Grand National meeting, and it is probable that he will be spelled for a few months. He finished up with a good performance in the Grand National Hurdles, and he should be capable of a lot of improvement yet, as he is a comparative novice at the jumping game. Zeuxis has been spelling for a few weeks. He is suffering from a strain, due to a fall at the Grand National meeting It was unfortunate for His connection! that he had to be thrown out of work, as he shaped well in his schooling, and if he had gone on all right he would have earned some money in hurdle races during the spring. NOTES FROM HASTINGS. The Hastings tracks are in good order at present, and Saturday morning's work was carried out under ideal weather conditions. Because of the two meetings, Hawke's Bav Hunt and Dannevirke just being concluded, the majority of horses here were only given pace work. Air. W. G. Stead's two-year-olds, Wedded and Skied were run along four furlongs. They were not bustled to do o9s. These two are well forward, and their initial start will be at Avondale. Bay View, from the same stable, is no, quite as forward as the other two, and was only given a short sprint down the straight. High Court and Great Charter were companions over six furlongs, finishing up together in 1.19. High Court is in capital condition to start the new season. He is intended for Wanganui. _ The burly three-year-old, Best Friend, in T. F. Quinlivan's stable, was given a working gallop over three furlongs. Curtsey was slightly ahead of Hunting Cry "in a six-furlong gallop run m 1.21 on the plough. Hunting Cry was rather disappointing, although he has not done anything strenuous in the past few weeks. However, he looks well in at Marton. Curtsey is one of the best gallopers on the track, but does not produce this form in a race. Tanagra jumped three hurdles well, and being in V. H. C-olello's stable, turn out a useful hurdler. The disappointing Kinross lias been turned out for an indefinite period. A. G. Dixon will act as private trainer for Airs. M. A. Perry in the future. The Grand Court—En Parole youngster in F. Davis' stable has been turned out for a short period, Somewhat on the crross side this colt will probably not be seen at his best until a .three-year-old.
