RELIEF CONCERT.
On Saturday evening at the Y.W.C.A. Hall a concert was given, the proceeds of which were donated to the Auckland Dorcas Society, and at the same time a welcome home was tendered to Mrs. Lee C'owie, whose work as a world missionary] for temperance is well j known. Addressing the audience, Mrs. Lee Cowie dealt with conditions in tlie j United States of America. She stated i that the great prosperity of the country was everywhere very evident. Everyone seemed to possess a motor car, while wages were high. On behalf of • the j Auckland Dorcas Society, Mrs. Hare, the j president, called attention to the work j which had been done during the last j twelve months. Over £500 had been expended in giving assistance to the poor j of the city. Besides this, over 3000 garments had been distributed and also 1200 pounds of breakfast foods; 1100 families had been assisted during the period of stress. Concert items were rendered by Mrs. Palmer, Misses McG'ulley, Wal lace, Pederson, Evans, Read, Marbeck, Thomas, Gotidie, Gary, E. Hallamore, M. Hallamore, Pearson, Pvle, Jones, Jump, Appleby, Macintosh, and Messrs. Galley, MacLachlan, Young, Hoole and Johnson. The choir, under the leadership of Mrs. W. Grinlinton, rendered several pleasing selections. Miss Evans was organiser of the programme and Mr. C. S. Palmer acted as chairman.
