MOTORING ACCIDENTS.

AUCKLANDER KILLED

CAR CAPSIZED OVER CULVERT,

OTOROHANGA, this day,

Leonard Neild, aged 50, an accountant, of John Street, Ponsonby, Auckland, was killed in a motor accident near Otorohanga yesterday afternoon.

Mr. Neild was a passenger in a car driven by Mr. S. J. Ray, sawmiller, of Waimiha, Otorohanga. He was travel-

ling from Auckland to- Mr. Ray's home. When driving over the Waitomo Valley Road Mr. Ray found he had taken the wrong route. He turned, and in backing the car struck a culvert. The ,car overturned and Mr. Neild was pinned underneath and crushed. He was dead when he was extricated.

The inquest was opened before Mr. R. M. Sommerville, coroner, to-day.

• William Nield, constable at Otahuhu, identified his brother. _

Percy Niekl, another brother, said Leonard left his home on Monday morning at 8 o'clock with Ray.

The inquest was adjourned sine die to enable the police to obtain further evidence.
