Tlie amateur boxing championship contests were continued this aiternoon and evening in the presence of good attendances. Results were:— Light-weights.—A. Craig (Te Aroha), 9st 71b, beat G. J. Roper (Taumarunui), 9st 91b. The winner's straight left was very effective. In his bout last night with Moulin (Ashburton), Craig won. H. Thomas (Wellington), 9st 71b, beat L. Ennis (Waimate), 9st 121b; W. Carey (Canterbury), 9st 121b, beat T. Walker (Otago), 9st*7lb; and G. Thomas (Wellington), 9st 71b, ' beat J. MeMahon (Taihape), 9st 101b, after a gruelling contest.

Fly-weights. —A. Ennis (Canterbury), 7st 81b, beat K. Webb (Wellington), 7st 101b; D. Roebuck (Taranaki), 7st 91b, beat J. Drew (Otago), 7st 91b; and F. Pearcey (Auckland), 7st 01b, beat S. Purton (Greymouth), 7st Sib, after a fast bout.

DECISIONS OF ASSOCIATION,

PURSES FOR PROFESSIONALS

GREYMOUTH, Friday,

At the annual meeting of the New Zealand Boxing Association to-day the following remits were approved: — "That a local association shall not hold any professional contest within a period of 14 days immediately preceding the day on which championships begin or within a similar perod immediately succeeding the day on which championships conclude." "That where' any professional under engagement for a contest under any local association requests postponement of the contest to some later date to that named in the articles, it shall be optibnal for such local association to hold him liable to pay. any expenses claimed by. his opponent consequent on such postponement not exceeding £1 a day for each day following the date on which the original agreement provided." A Southland remit, "That purses for professional contests be limited to £150, including expenses," was amended to read, "That in' the first contest by a professional the purse shall not exceed £200 and expenses £40, and that the purse in subsequent contests be limited to £150."

Remits from Southland and Taumarunui urging abolition of the amusement tax were referred to the New Zealand Council.

It was resolved to hold the 1930 championships at Palmerston North. The question of granting a license to Morgan as a professional was discussed. Dr. P. F. McEvedy explained the circumstances. On the motion of the president the action of the New Zealand, Council in granting a license to Morgan was approved. The president of the Manawatu Association was elected president of the New Zealand Boxing Association for the ensuing year, and Messrs. A. Beban (Greymouth) and J. E. Staples (Wellington) were elected vice-presidents. All members of the New Zealand Council and members of the Appeal Committee were re-elected.

KID CHOCOLATE WINS.

AL. SINGER WELL BEATEN.

(Australian and N.Z. Press Association.) NEW YORK, August 29. In a boxing contest at the New York polo grounds, Kid Chocolate (1251b), the Cuban, defeated Al. Singer (12Sflb) in a decision 'bout of 12 rounds. There were 50,000 spectators, and. the receipts totalled £45.000, both figures being records for a fight between men of their weight. No championship was involved. It was the greatest contest of Chocolate's career. He received a tremendous ovation. The bout was thrilling throughout. Singer had been fa-vourite, for he had defeated Andre Routis a short time before. Chocolate, however, proved to have more staying power and toward the end ihe punished Singer < with terrific punches to the head. The loser had a long lead in the early rounds, but Chocolate turned the. tables after the sixth round. Singer only scored in the eleventh by a slim margin, and -was barely able- to weather the twelfth. • . . ~.

AUCKLANDERS HAVE GOOD CHANCE. . :

A telegram received by Mr. J. Watts, secretary of the Northern Boxing Association, from Mr. W.-E. Dervan, manager of the Auckland team, to-day stated that Johnß, Purdie, and McCartbny are all in the finals, and Pearcey hin the semi-finals. Mr. Dervan added that all the boys "have a good chance."
