HATCHET BLOWS.
ATTACK ON A WOMAN
DRAMA IN CITY SQUARE
A woman staggered up to a policeman in Forster Square, in the centre of Bradford, with blood streaming down her face, and stated that a man had attacked her with a hatchet. She was'on the point of collapse, and was taken to the infirmary in a serious condition. The woman was Bridget O'Neil, aged 30, who lives in Wharf Street. It was stated that she was in a shop in Boltou Road, occupied by Walter Homer, second-hand goods dealer, when the alleged attack took place. Mrs. Horner said that O'Neil was talking to her when a big, powerfully-built man entered the shop. He suddenly drew a hatchet from his pocket and, from behind, she alleged, gave the woman a violent blow on the head and another on the right side of the neck.
The injured woman, despite the savage attack, did not collapse, but staggered into Forster Square. The assailant disappeared.
