BEEF IN KEEN DEMAND,
' FAT PIGS A SHADE EASIER,
Messrs. Dalgety and Co., Ltd., report having held their usual weekly stock sale at Frankton saleyards en Tuesday, August 20, ajj under:— : ... , There was a large yarding of beef, which met with keen competition. Fat bullocks sold' at late rates, makiDg equal to 42/ per 1001b. Prime ewes and heifers even -higher' by 20/ per head, and choice quality young cow and heifer beef sold at equal to 40/ per 1001b on the average. We sold light bullocks at up to £15. A consignment of fat cows sold at an average of £12 15/; light cows and heifers making £8 to £9 5/; rough cows, £4 15/ to £6 15/. Only a few store cattle yarded. We sold a pen of yearling Holstein heifers at £4 5/; Shorthorn cross yearlings, £4. Sheep were yarded in small numbers, and prices were unchanged from last week. Prime fat wethers, 38/9 to £2; unfinished ewes, 23/; ewes in lamb, 17/3; cull ewes, in lamb, 12/. An average, yarding of fat pigs were a shade easier, and a small entry of stores were again advanced. Best baconers made from £4 to £4 7/; light baconers, £3 10/ to £3 16/; porkers, £2 15/ to £3 5/; light porkers,- £2 5/ to £2 9/; choppers, £3 5/ to £4 12/; large stores. !£2 4/to £2 12/; medium stores, £1 15/ to '£2; slips, £1 4/ to £1 11/; weaners, 18/ to £1 5/.
