PUBLIC WASTE.

I thoroughly agree with your correspondent who deplores municipal wastefulness in the matter of destroying firewood. It used to be the custom, and probably still is, for the Railway Department periodically to burn defective truck canvases, and one could s.?e on the one hand farmers' haystacks toilfuUy and inadequately covered with bits of tin and sacking, while useful canvas made a line smoke at the Newmarket railway yards. Nobody's busines# and who cares? * WASTE NOT.
