GAMING LAW AMENDMENTS.
3 PRESBYTERY HOSTILE. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) f CHRISTCHURCH, Monday. "Tile Presbytery of ChriStchurcli pro- [ tests against the proposed amendments , to the Gaming Act which aim to remove restrictions (a) on the publication of ' dividends and (b) on the use of the telegraph offices for the transmission of ■ bets to racecourses. It does so because it is steadily opposed to gambling in all J its forms and is assured that increased t facilities such as are proposed are calcut lated to foster further the gambling spirit, which is a source of untold harm to individuals and a menace to the > State." The Christehurch Presbytery passed ' the above resolution unanimously with- ) out discussion at its meeting this morn- } i"S----5 Resolutions protesting against the ■ proposed amendments to the Gaming Act were carried at morning and evening ser- ) vices at Beresford Street Congregational Church on Sunday. There were large ' congregations on both occasions.
