1 for earthquake relief. CITY COUNCIL'S DECISION. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Thursday. An offer was made to the Mayor, the Rev. J. K. Archer, by liristcliurch Cinemas, Ltd., to give exhibitions opictures in four theatres under the company's control on Sunday evening in aid of the Mayor's earthquake relief fund. It was proposed that the whole gross proceeds should go to the fund. Jt. was also suggested that the council's action in granting permission for the pictures to be screened sliould not be taken as a precedent. Tlve offer was considered at a special meeting of the By-laws Committee today, and was declined on the general ground that the committee was not favourable to the screening of pictures on Sundays.
