OUTLOOK FROM OPOTIKI.

The report presented at the annual meeting of the Opotiki Chamber of Commerce stated that good progress on the East Coast Road had been maintained and it was hoped that the Motu bridge would be opened at an early date and that in a few, months time it would be possible to travel as far as Te Kaha. At the present rate of progress it was anticipated that it would be possible to travel right round the East Cape to Gisborne within the next two years. The chamber bad taken an important part in pressing upon the Government the urgency of the speedy construction of the. Tancatua-Opotiki section of the East Coast Main Trunk Railway. It was hoped that some definite pronouncement would be made by the Government during the coming session of Parliament. The election of the officers resulted: President, Mr. W. J. Scott; vice-president, Mr. G. Neilson; committee, Messrs. G. A. Hathaway, N. F. Pattle, S. Shalfoon, A. Arrowsmith, C. W. Fairweather, D. Miller, A. E. Blake, G. Shalfoon, T. H. Pearson, J. G. Murray, J. R. Sinclair, A. Young, J. McDonnell, G. S. Moody, J. J". Moody; auditor, Mr. H. Jessop; secretary, Mr. Chas. ,H. Fleming. Mr. W.'.J, Scott was appointed to represent Opotiki Chamber at the provincial conference of chambers to bo held at Auckland on July 10. The chamber decided that a district court at the Auckland A. and P. Association's winter i\'iibition would be too expensive. It was decided to ask the postal authorities for a tri-weekly mail service to Maraenui and to ask for a daily parcel mail by train.
