A woman who occupies a distinguished and unique position among the most eminent composers of our day (says an English paper) is Dame Ethel Mary Smyth, Mus. Doc., who has written several fine ope-*as which have been performed in Germany and in England with great success. Dr. Ethel Smyth is also a keen feminist and was a prominent militant supporter of the Woman Suffrage campaign, composing some of the suffrage music heard at that time.

On Friday afternoon the pupils of the HotorUa Primary School met to say farewell to Miss H. M.
