OFFER OF £25,000 TO CITY.
UNEMPLOYMENT RELIEF.
MAYOR CONSIDERING PROJECTS.
The offer of the Prime Minister to contribute from the national Treasury the sum of £25,000 for the relief of unemployment in Auckland was referred to by the Mayor, Mr. G. Baildon, to-day. "Ever since the offer was first made." said Mr. Baildon, "we have been considering what should be done. Several projects have been discussed, but no decision arrived at. "The Finance Committee will meet next week," he continued, "and will go thoroughly into the question of raising the £25,000 whfefa is necessary to secure the Government subsidy of a like amount and discuss the methods of expenditure. Mr. Baildon said the City Council had done a great deal for the relief of unemployment. Grounds at Point Chevalier, Grey Lynn and Epsom had been completed with relief workers, while Waitarua Park was under construction. This work had received a Government subsidy on £8000 which had been provided from savings from the city. The Western Springs stadium was also being constructed bv men on relief pay. "Manv thousands of pounds have been provided for unemployment by the city,' added Mr. Baildon, "and everything possible done to relieve unemployment.
