TALLOW, HEMP, WOOL, ETC
HIGH COMMISSIONER'S CABLE. The Department of Agriculture has received the following cablegram, dated May 24, from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, London: — Tallow. —There was no auction this week and tho market is quiet at last quotations. Hemp.—Manila: The market ia steady and values are slightly improved. Closing values. J grade, May-July shipment, £37 10/. Sisal: Tie market ia firm and advancing. No. 1 fair average quality for June-August shipment sold at £-38 to £38 10/; good marks, £3!) 10/: fair average quality No. 2, £3G 10/. New Zealand: There is a little better iuquiry in sympathy with other hard fibre, but buyers' ideas aro still very low. Nominal closing comparative values, highpoirits, £33; fair, £31; common, £29; rejected, £27 10/. Tow: Second grade, £21; third grade, £.17 10/. Fruit.—The steamers Coptic, Middlesex, Mataroa and Herininius have, arrived. Apart from a little frozen fruit on the Mataroa and Herminius all the apples are in good condition. The pears are sound, except Cornice and Beurre Bosc, from the Mataroa, which are very wasty and of little value. Winter Coles are ripe. The demand for pears and apples is fairly good, and the market is steady. Prices, including Otago consignments, are:— Cox's Orange Pippin, 20/ to 25/, up to 27/ a case; Dunn's Favourite! Jonathan and Delicious, 12/ to 15/; Statesman and Cleopatra, 14/ to 16/; Rome Beauty and Stunner, 13/ to 15/, up to 16/; King David, Adam's Pearmain and London Pippin, 12/ to 14/. Pears: Cornice, 2/6 per bdle; Beurre Bosc, 2/ to 4/; Winter Nelis, 4/6 to 11, single trays; S/ to 0/, doublo trays; Josephine, 5/ to 7/6, single trays; P. Barry, S/, double trays; Wiuter Cole, 4/3 to 5/ single trays, 6/ to 7/6 double trays. Wool.—The Bradford market is quiet, with only small business in tops. Hates for Merino and fine crossbred are in favour of buyers, but medium crossbred and coarse crossbred are steady. Present quotations for tops are:—C4's warp, 3/6% to 3/7 per lb; average, 3/5 to 56's, 2/7: 50's, prepared, 2/3; 40's, prepared, 1/10.
CHICAGO V/HEAT VALUES. (Australian and N.Z. Press Association.) (Received 10 a.m.) CHICAGO, May 27. Wheat for delivery in May is quoted at Chicago at $1.98% per b'uehel. For July delivery the rate is $1.04%, for September §1.08 and for December §1.12%. BRADFORD WOOL MARKET. (Received 10 a.m.) LONDON, May 27. Bradford reports a very quiet market, with quotations nominally unchanged. APPLES IN LONDON. New Zealand apples, ex the Fremantte, were held over owing to offers not reachins the limits. DAIRY PRODUCE. Messrs. Dalgety and Company, Limited, report having received the following cable.jrram from their London House, dated 24th instant:—Cheese: Prices are 1/ to 2/ higher. (Now white 90/, coloured 92/).
