WHEEL AND TRACK NOTES.

(By ORION.) Carnui was working well at Epsom a lid showing improved pace, and it would not be surprising to find the bay pacer showing up well in the Novice at Hast J ings. Ethiopian, who ran second at Ashburton on Saturday, is likely to bo in demand on Saturday next at Hastings, where he is on the front of the East Const Handicap. ,T. T. Paul will have Groat Parrish, My Thorpe, and Haroto at the Hawke's Bay fixture. They are all racing in the weak classcs, and with ordinary luck should get expenses between theni on the trip. When trained in Auckland Peter Lloyd showed a fine turn of speed on tho tracks, and if he has gone along the right way since lie returned to the care of the Gisborne sportsman, R. Fiskcn, he may be hard to dispose of at the Hawke's Bay meeting. Great Parrisli is not included in the' list of those accepted for the Sapling Stakes at Ashburton, to be decided on June 8. Evidently <T. T. Paul does not consider the trip warranted with his colt, although he has been paid up for in. the Novice Handicap at Hawke's Bay. Benefice lias shown a good turn of speed in training, and although she has one win to her credit she lias failed in all her other engagements. The bay mare will be competing at Hawke's Bay, and off the front of the mile and aquarter looks like being hard to head off. She docs not go nearly so well on grass us she does on the dirt track.
