DEATH AT CROSSING.

IMAM KILLED AT PATEA.

NOT SEEN BY' DRIVER. TRAIN TRAVELLING SLOWLY. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) HAWERA, this clay. William Kilgour, aged CO, a labourer, ■was struck by the 6.15 p.m. goods train last night at Patea, and killed instantly. The accident occurred at the station yard level crossing, which Kilgour had to cross to reach his whare near by. The driver of the train believed he had struck a dog as the train was slowly pulling into Patea. He returned to investigate, and found Kilgour lying on an adjoining track with his skull crushed. His dog was running around the body, much distressed. It is thought that the- man stumbled when crossing the line, and that he was lying on the track when the train pulled in. The driver did not see anyone, although the engine had a good light. The • only ■ mark on the engine was one low down on'tlie cow-catcher.
