WEST COAST HIGHWAY.
ROAD FROM CANTERBURY. LEWIS SADDLE APPROVED. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) REEFTON, this day. A party of twenty Canterbury representatives arrived at Reefton on Saturday niglit via Lewis Pass t<v inspect the route of the proposed main Jiigliway. They expressed themselves delighted with the easy grade and wonderful scenery. They attended a public meeting, where there was a large gathering, the county chairman presiding. The following resolution was unanimously passed: "That this 7neeting of representatives from Canterbury [ and West Coast affirms the national importance of the speedy construction of a motor road between Canterbury and the West Coast by way of Lewis Pass; also that representations be made to the Government in order to have the work undertaken on an adequate scale immediately, and carried on without delay untii completion. Further, that copies of this resolution be sent to M.P.s for Canterbury, Westland and Nelson, with a request that they take all possible steps to have such national highway constructed." The delegation left Reefton for Canterbury yesterday and returned by the Lewis Pass route.
