LOCALITY INDEX.
FOR RAILWAY CUSTOMERS. (By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.") WELLINGTON, this day. A locality index is the newest, move of the Railway -Department to popularise rail transport' and to provide more information for the general public. The locality index, just issued, is created by order of the general manager.- In the past, both the departmental officers and the public have lacked information as to just what parts of the country are sewed by rail. A place such as Turua, in Thames Valley, of importance in its district. but not generally known, presents problems to the shipper of goods. In the index every station and place served by rail is listed alphabetically and opposite it is- the name of the station or stations from which the goods can be sent. This index, which is available'on request, is expected to prove of value to the commercial community and certainly provides tliem with information which up to the present has not been available, even from departmental officers themselves.
