MT. ROSKILL ROAD BOARD.
A meeting of the Mount Roskill Road Board was held on Tuesday. Mr. S. J. Goodall presided in the absence of the chairman, Mr. E. F. Jones, through illness. Deputation.—Messrs. J. McLennan and G. Vic-kers waited on the board with regard to the by-law regulating the keeping of piggeries in Roskill South. They asked for an alteration in_ the by-law affecting the drainage of their properties. The request was referred to the Works Committee to inspect the district and report. Charitable Aid—The board's contribution this year for charitable aid ie £2661 6/. Mount Albert Road.—The anticipated amount of subsidy receivable on a £2 for £1 basis, as defined by the Main Highways Board on the proposed roading loan of £62,000 for Mount Albert Road, was reported by the engineer to be £15,619 18/. Of this amount £400 is for subsoil drainage in wet clay area, and the balance of £15,219 18/ for excavations, concrete slabs and'bitumen shoulders. The report was referred to the Finance Committee for its consideration and report, with a view to the proposed loan being placed before the ratepayers for its adoption at an early date. More Light.—The Auckland Electric Power Board will place another street lamp in Budock Road. Permits.—Fourteen permits for new buildings were issued during the fortnight of a total value of £3793. Transport Board. —Mr. G. E. Tansley referred to the reported resignation of Mr. F. S. Morton, who represents Mount Roskill on the Transport Board. He announced that he would be a candidate for the vacancy if it occurs, as he had the necessary time to devote to the work, and considered it most essential that au extensive outside district like Mount Roskill should have direct representation. The Onehunga Borough Council had asked Mr. _ Morton to reconsider his decision, but his own impression was that Mr. Morton's resignation was irrevocable. on account of indifferent health. Messrs. J. Donald and S. Scarborough s.poke in support of Mr. Tansley's suitability for the position. Mr. Tansley has resided in Mount Roskill district for 18 years. He is now in his thirteenth year as a member of the Road Board, of which he was chairman for eight yeans.
