Thought Mackay Would Use Gun And Shot Him. ACCIDENTAL KILLING. (United Service.) (Received 12 noon.) LONDON, May 5. The "Exchange" telegraphs that its Berlin correspondent says the police state that Mr. Mackay was shot accidentally. A policeman says that finding Mr. Mackay in an area which was declared to be in a state of siege, he ordered him to put up his hands. Mr. Mackay held up one hand. It is now conjectured that ]*e attempted to produce identity papers with the other hand. Unfortunately the policeman thought Mr. Mackay was going to use a revolver and fired immediately.
