POKE NO RAILWAY.
URGENCY OF THE WORK. SOLID AUCKLAND SUPPORT.
PRIME MINISTER INTERVIEWED. , (By Telegraph.—Special to " Star.") i WELLINGTON, this day. Construction of the Paeroa-Pokeno railway was urged on Sir Joseph Ward by Mr. A. M. Samuel, M.P. for Thames, as the most promising solution of the Auckland unemployed problem. Be also pointed out that the Waihou and Ohinemuri river improvement works being almost a number of men, including engineers, would be shortly available, and the whole equipment could be utilised for railway construction. The Paeroa-Pokeno railway was urgently needed, and would be supported by all the Auckland members of the Cabinet. It would save a long detour via Frankton, involving 44 miles of "dead" haulage and at least two hours' delay, while existing congestion at Frankton and Morrinsville yards would be relieved. Mr. Samuel states that the Prime Minister was very interested, and appeared quite sympathetic, promising to discuss the matter with his colleagues and give a reply as early as possible.
