MATAMATA.
The balance-sheet presented at the annual meeting of tt.e Walton Public Hail committee showed that the indebtedness on the hall had been reduced to £20. Mr. L. Mapp was elected president. The Valuer-General has advised the Mata•mata Town Board that it will conduct a re-valuation of the Matamata town district during 1930. Fifty-nine applications have been received by the board for the position of town clerk, rendered vacant by the appointment of Mr. C. G. Lucas as county clerk at Whakatane. The applications have been reduced to five for further consideration. The Minister of Lands has advised the 'Town Board that the State Forests Department has no funds for the acquisition of the town catchment area. If, however, the board is prepared to acquire the land, the departmental officers would be at its dis posal with advice and plans.
