DR, GUNSQN ELECTED. DISPLACEMENT OF MR. KNIGHT. FOUR SITTING MEMBERS GO IN. The only remarkable feature of-the election of city representatives to the Auckland Hospital Board was the flatteringly large vote accorded Dr. E. B. Gunson. who polled only 1434 votes fewer than the popular chairman, Mr.
Wm. Wallace. Third oil the list was the Labour M.P. for Auckland West, Mr. M. J. Savage, who was more than 2000 votes below the runner-up. Mrs. E. Kidd and Mr. J. Dempsey retained their seats, Mr. G. Knight having to give place to the doctor. There was a difference of only 246 votes between Messrs. Dempsey and Knight. Details of the voting follow: — Successful. *W. Wallace 14.3(57 Dr. E. B. New Lynn and Ellerslie. Messrs. J. Rowe and E. H. Potter, were returned by a big margin. The unsuccessful candidate was Mr. L. Holt. Mr. W. K. Howitt, representing the four North Shore boroughs, and Mr. A. S. M. Laing, representing the Rodney, ar.d Waitemata Counties, Great Barrier Island, Helensville and Warlcworth, have been re-elected unopposed. Three seats on the board have yet to be filled. A representative has to be appointed for the road districts in the Eden county, and the One Tree Hill and Mount Roskill Road Boards have decided to nominate Mr. S. J. Harbutt. Provided that the Mount Wellington Road Board, the other body interested, agrees to nominate Mr. Harbutt, he will be elected.
A content for two remaining seats will take place on May 8. A representative is required for the combined district of Manukau County; Otaliulni borough and the Papakura, Manurewa, Papatoetoe and Howick town districts. Xominations have been received from Mr. C'. R. Petrie and the Rev. W. C. Wood. Mr. J. D. Chalmers, the sitting member, and ili-. C. A. H. Tapper will contest the seat for the combined district of Franklin County, Pukekohe borough and the Waiuku and Tuakau town districts.
