TRANSACTIONS ON 'CHANGE.

QUIETER TONE PREVAILS,

Little business was recorded on the Auckland Stock Exchange after noon yesterday, anu there was a quiet openin" at this morn'.ng's call. Bank of New South Wales shares have firmed up again, and buyers are now offering £51 12/6. Holders of British Tobacco dropped their price 3d to £2 7/9, but without doing business. Interest in coal shares continued, and at the morning call a parcel of WestportStockton Coal shares, par value 10/, changed hands at 3/1. This old established company has not paid dividends in recent years. Small profits have been made, but they have been transferred to property account. In their last annual report at the end of the year, the directors reported that the arrangements for an increased output were nearing completion. Bidding was more animated, at the midday call and several transactions were completed. Taranaki Oil slipped back a few pence, with a sale at 5/10, and New Zealand Refrigerating contributing shares changed hands at an advance of 3d. Inquirers for Australian Provincial Insurance raised their bids to 10/, bringing an offer to sell at 10/9. Gas 6") ares are very firm and sellers raised the limit to £1 4/7 for the £1 share. New Zealand Breweries also firmed up, with buyers at £3. 2/. Interest Rates.
