GROANS HEARD AT DOOR.
MAN FOUND INJURED. ONE EYE DESTROYED. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) CHRISTCHURCH, Friday. Mr. William Edward Butcher, aped 52, a resident of Medbury, was found in a semi-conscious condition near the Hurunul Bridge early this morning. He was suffering from severe injuries and it is thought he was knocked down by some vehicle. Mr. W. S. Fitzsimmons, who lives in a hut near by, heard groans outside his door, and there founfl Mr. Butcher, who had apparently crawled to the spot. Medical attention was secured, and the injured man was removed to Waikari Hospital. Mr. Butcher's chief injury was a deep wound on the face from the left eye to the ear. the eye being completely destroyed. Up till late this evening lie was still semi-conscious, and unable to give any account of how he received his injuries.
