Miss Thelma Willoughby, of Wellington South, who recently gained her L.A.8., has been advised by the local secretary for the Royal Academy of Musie that she has been gTanted a two years' exhibition at the Royal Academy. Mies Willoughby gained many prizes as * pianist at the local competitions, gaining a scholarship when only 13 years of ape, and winning the gold medal in the Schubert centenary competition last year. She was only 15 years of age when she gained her L.A.B. It is Miss Willonghby's intention to take advantage of the exhibition, and will probably leave for London in July or August.

At the half-yearly meeting of the Viftoria League, held in London, Mrs. Amery, wife of the Hon. Amery, who visited Auckland a short time ago, gave 3Ti account of her trip, and paid a high tribute to the work being done by the organisation in all the Empire, specially mentioning the A"- !.!.:nd president. Miss Mowbray, bv name as "a real wonder in Auckland." "Anything in the wide world that can be done to increase the Victoria League and its membership and to encourage it ought to he done," sand Mrs. Amery. "I think ] t is a most wonderful thing. All over Amtralha you have golden-hearted and thp Victoria League going strong in Perth, Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide and Brisbane. In Brisbane they entertained Lady Goodwin and myself to morning tea. The branch is going ahead tremendously, and Lady Goodwin is a great asset to the league. They are so good to the People who are settling in Queensland and to the girls who go out there."

Miss Pocock, a visitor from South Africa, wa« welcomed by the Canterbury ■Association of the New Zealand Federation of University Women at their last nieetirig. Miss Pocock then spoke of her life for ten years in many parts of South Africa. Miss Pocock is a graduate of Oxford University. She i 6 now. senior mistress of the Girls' High School at Salisbury, Southern Rhodesia, and on leave for a year to study educational systems in secondary schools. The B peaker dealt with the general charm of Africa, and paused to particularise upon Rhodesia. The educational, historical and political questions were most entertainingly dispersed with anecdotes of fxperiencos with native domestics, an insurrection, and of strange and terrible W| M creatures of the veldts. These last seemed the least While deprecating sentimentality, the speaker dwelt on the work of Cecil Rhodes, and outlined the power of a great dream for a young country in the mind of a man '0 public-spirited. During supper members were afforded the pleasure of becoming personally acquainted with Miss Pocock.
