FLOGGING OF FARMER.

S. African Judge Suspends Order For Fortnight. APPEAL TO BE MADE. (Australian and N.Z. Press Association.) (Received 11 a.m.) CAPE TO WN, April 17. Strenuous efforts continue to be made to avoid the infliction of lashes on the Jewish farmer convicted of culpable homicide in connection with the death of a native. An application was made to-day to the judge who tried the case for suspension of sentence pending an appeal on the ground of a special entry not being made of the jury's recommendation for mercv.

The judge at first refused but subsequently suspended the sentence for a fortnight, pending an application to the appellate division.
