Mr. J. M. Allen, of Plako, Is Btandlng for the Thames Valley Power Board as representative of the Morrlnsvllle Borough.

As a result of strong representations made by Mr. F. Lye, M.P., for additions to the Te Hoe school, the member has received advice from the Minister of Education that Cabinet has approved a grant for the work to be carried out.

A good performance has been put up by a grade Jersey cow in the herd of Mr. A. Ross, Mangateparu. Under test by the Herd Testing Association the cow produced 5271b of butterfat in 269 days, the figure being for the season to date. Last month flhe produced 451b of fat. It is anticipated that the cow will top the 6001b mark for the season. MATAMATA. Councillors H. Rollett and E. J. Darby, sitting members of the Matamata County Council lor the Matamata and Pntaruru Ridings respectively, will not seek reelection.

The Matamata Post Office was recently raised a grade. Mr. R. Hunter, who for some years has been attached to the MorTinsville office has been promoted to supervisor at Matamata. Prior to their departure for Themes, where they will take up their residence, Mr. and Mrs. W. Taylor and family were tendered a farewell social at Te Pol. On behalf of the residents Mr. W. Settle presented Mr. and Mrs. Taylor with a handsome "grandfather" clock as a token of recognition of their services to the district.

Mrs. G. Gibson, of Taimlro. Taranaki, who died in the Waikato Hospital on Saturday, was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. P. Flnlnyson. of Matamata. Prior to her marriage a few years ago she was a prominent member of the Matamata Presbyterian Church, being a member of the choir and secretary of tbe Ladies' Guild. She had an endearing personality, and her death ie deeply regretted by a large number of friends. OHAKTTNE. A welcome social was tendered Rev. and Mrs. T. W. Nightingale in the Presbyterian <""hurch on Saturday evening. Mr. J. G. Mc Gregor. senior clerk, on behalf of the congregation, tendered the new minister a very hearty welcome. The Rev. E. Bandy, of Taihnpe, also spoke. Soncs were rendered by Miss N. Calder and Messrs. Ede and Pearce, and there were several competitions, the winners being Mesdames Nightingale and Cnlder and Mr. J. Campbell. WAIMARINO. The following so'far have been Dominated for seven seats on the County Council :—Ohakune Riding, Mr. J. A. Morton; Manganui Riding, Mr. A. B. Harris; Huikumu. Mr. C. H. Ball; Karioio, Mr. D. H. Stracban ; Parapara, Mr. H. A. Wright. Mr. A. B. Harris was the only nomination received for representation on the Wanganui Hospital Board. WHAKATANE. TAURANGA. Mr. J. V. Haskell, who has been assisting engineer of the Public Works Department at Tauranga for the past ten yeare, has been transferred to Waikokopu, where he will be in charge of the construction of the section of the East Coast railway from Walkokopn northwards. Mrs. B. C. Burton is a candidate for a seat on the Tauranga Hospital Board. She is the first lady to seek election to any local body in Tauranga.
