N. AUCKLAND TOURISTS.
GAME AT EDEN PARK.
RAIN CAUSES DELAYS. Begun yesterday, a match between an Auckland eleven aud the North Auckland touring team is being completed at Eden Park to-day. As the result of last night's rain, the conditions to-day are not in favour of big scores. Winning the toss yesterday, North Auckland sent the local side to the wickets, but it proved rather an unwise decision. The Aucklanders made a good showing, and put 333 on the board. A feature ot the innings was the bitting of Horspool, who hit up lO.> in bright style before retiring. He was only 90 minutes at the crease, hitting one six and a dozen fours. Taylor carried hi 3 bat for 72, hitting one six and nine fours, while Lyon (42), Guiney (28), and Hay (2t>), also played well. N. Vipond reaped chief success among the bowlers. After rain had interrupted play. North Auckland started their innings with W. Dunning and Panther, and when stumps were drawn, they had scored 19 without loss, Kain to-day caused the start of play to he delayed for nearly two hours. Only :half a dozen runs were added to yesterday's tally before Dunning gave Frater a chance at point off Lyon. 2->—l—lo. Panther and Vipond were next associated, and put up a stubborn stand. With the pitch cutting up badly at ; one end, the batsmen were largely on the defensive and there was mild' applause when Vipond pulled Saunders to the fenr-e. Both batsmen found difficulty in getting the bal lthrough the field, and there was little in the play to keep the handful of spectators interested. Panther was unable to do much with Saunders, who was breaking both ways, but lie eventually got a. couple with a high hhot round to leg, which fell clear of the field. A good straight drive two Overs later uot him another two, and ! took the total into the fifties. About this stage Horspnol relieved Lyon at the pavillion end. Panther opened out to send Saundera to the on boundary, and his partner drove Horspool straight down the pitch for two. only the heavy state of the ground stopping a four. With the total at 03 Taylor took over from Saunders and in his first over Pan ther, in attempting to cut down on a hall outside his oIV pin. dislodged his bails. He bad contributed a very useful ■11. Wyatt was next and was lucky in not being caught in the slips before he bad scored, but lie got moving with a four to leg otf Horspool. At the luncheon adjournment the score was SO for two wickets.
