WALLPAPER 2000 YEARS OLD

According to recent researches. China was the first nation to make use of wallpaiwr. Traces have been discovered of wallpaper being used for ritual purposes 2000 years ago. Chinese families commemorated the death of their relatives by putting up a strip of wallpaper each time a death occurred. Skins of animals, tapestries, and painted clofh were the forerunners of wallpaper in England. Wallpaper discovered some years ago at Christ's College, Cambridge, is now believed to be the first made in Britain. Its date was apparently 1509, for on the other side of the paper appeared a poem concerning the death of Henry VII. and a proclamation of Henry VIII. It is thought that Henry VIII., proud of coining to the throne at the early age of eighteen, sent a bundle of proclamations to his grandmother, and she, being a very frugal woman, had the pattern stamped on the back.
