TRAGIC NIGHT OUT.
GIRL S BODY TAKEN FROM RIVER. ' A vision of a girl only half-seen through J a fog standing: at the bottom of steps on ! the towing path of the River Aire at Leeds, late, at night, was described by a at an inquest on Jane Watson 16 . daughter of a Leeds Corporation workman, whose body was recovered from the stream. The father stated that three months ago , he reprimanded his daughter for staying j out late. She left home bright and cheer- ' fill, and at 10.45 p.m. he was told by the girl's companion that Jane had gone to her aunt's, as ehe was frightened to go home , for fear of the strap. Mr. Watson said that he would only have given her a severe talking to. Violet Burrows said that she and -Jane Watson went out w-.th two boys, one of whom ran off with Jane's hat ani kept them out late. Thomas Sale, an L.X.E.R. signalman. ?aid that at abuut eleven o'clock he heard a girl's faint cry, and saw, dimly in the fog. just under the light of a lamp at the bottom of steps leading from the towingpath, a girl standing, and then disappear. The coroner said that the girl, who was of a bright and jolly nature, had paid a sad penalty for a night's fun. He did not blame the rather for the girl's unwarranted fear of going home iate, Verdict oi found drowned was retiymed.
